Not Sure If Your Child Needs an Evaluation?
A free online autism screener can be a helpful first step if you have concerns about your child’s development but are not sure whether a full evaluation is needed. Screeners do not diagnose autism; they can help you decide whether a closer evaluation may be appropriate.
M-CHAT-R — for toddlers and younger children
The M-CHAT-R is validated for ages 16–30 months. For children older than 30 months but not yet 4, Acorn may still offer the M-CHAT-R as an informational screener; results outside the validated age range should be interpreted cautiously and are not diagnostic.
CAST — for children ages 4–11
The Childhood Autism Spectrum Test is a parent-completed screener for autism-related characteristics in older children.
Both screeners are available online at no cost.
